My right knee hurt, and though it went against all my take-charge instincts as a male, I cranked out an earnest prayer: “What should I do?” The intuitive answer came quickly – and of course, it told me to do something I didn’t want to do: jog back over the hill and change shoes. But I complied, not without mental resistance, and completed the run pain-free.
Running is injuries, pain, and unpleasant tiredness, alternating with high energy and ecstasy. Runners who endure, learn to enjoy the swings of the pendulum. Each facet of running has joy in it, if we know where to find it – even in injuries, bad patches, and days of heavy legs and deep fatigue.
In the beginning, God vibrated His consciousness and energy outwardly, manifesting a cosmos in which everything has its dual opposite. Running is maya, the pendulum’s eternal swing. The successful runner learns to escape to his center, where the joys are undiluted and enduring.
